Where Does the Love Go?
After loss, there’s a question that doesn’t always get spoken out loud.
Not because it isn’t there…
but because it’s hard to put into words.
Where does the love go?
The love we still feel.
The love that didn’t end.
The love that still reaches for someone who is no longer here.
It doesn’t just disappear.
If anything…
it can feel even stronger.
Quieter in some moments.
Heavier in others.
But always present.
And that can be confusing.
Because we’re still loving…
but we no longer have a place to give that love in the same way.
So it lingers.
In memories.
In the spaces they used to fill.
In the small, unexpected moments that catch us off guard.
Sometimes it shows up as longing.
Sometimes as tears.
Sometimes as a quiet ache we can’t quite explain.
But none of that means something is wrong.
It means the love didn’t end.
It simply changed form.
And over time—slowly, gently—
we begin to find new places for it.
Not replacements.
Not something to fill the space they left.
But quiet ways of carrying that love forward.
In how we remember.
In how we speak their name.
In how we live… just a little differently because they were here.
Love doesn’t always know where to go at first.
But it doesn’t disappear.
It stays.
And in its own time…
it finds a way to keep living through you.
Love doesn’t leave when someone does—
it just waits for somewhere to land.
Sometimes the quietest moments
are where we begin to feel it again.
Gentle reflection:
Where do you notice that love still showing up in your life?
